Have you guys heard of this film, Café de Flore? It was written and directed by Jean-Marc Vallée, who previously created Young Victoria. I saw a screening of the film during the AFI Festival here in Los Angeles and fell in love. A soundtrack full of Pink Floyd and Sigur Ros? Beautiful actors (that's Vanessa Paradis you see!) and heartfelt performances? Yeah. Do yourself - your heart, your eyes, your ears - a favor and see it if it's playing in your city. Oh, and the whole film is in French. This trailer is misleading...

I am a real Etsy nut. You might even say it's my "freak" (I'm reading Tom Wolfe's Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test right now and I love the description of people describing what they're into as their freaks... pretty wacky and wonderful, though perhaps I'm misappropriating it). From vintage to handmade loveliness, oh it's seriously a girl's dream. So I revisited the Scotch & Soda collection I spied on Miss Moss a few months back to let my mind wander to what I might like to be wearing... sigh... (just kidding, mostly - I mean I can't complain - But there is something so wonderful about sweaters and cozy layers brrr.)

In the Indian state of Meghalaya, there exist stunningly intricate bridge systems made from the ancient vines and roots of the native Ficus Elastica (rubber tree). Using hollowed out trees to create root guidance systems, the roots and vines of the rubber tree are stretched across fast-flowing rivers and streams to form sturdy bridge systems. A mature bridge can hold the weight of more than 50 people at a time! Can't you just imagine how this bridge might feel underneath you? Sort of springy and sinewy? Or how it might smell? Traditional wooden bridges could not survive in Meghalaya due to the significant rainfall that is characteristic to the region. These bridges, still alive, still growing, gain strength over time. Truly awe-inspiring! This is nature and humankind interacting in a most wondrous way.

Oh, dear. It has been a while, dear blog, hasn't it?! Since moving to California life has been less than organized and so on that I blame my absence. Grad school started on Friday and things have been loony tunes here since then. Also, being active on tumblr is proving to be increasingly simple and addicting. This seriously striking beauty is Kathy Casamo, a member of brilliant author Ken Kesey's mad, raucous, and totally iconic Merry Pranksters. In the mid 1960s, the group set out on a cross country road trip that would reshape and in many ways, help form the grounds for America's view of counterculture and psychedelic drugs. On the journey, the group encountered generational icons Allen Ginsberg, Timothy Leary, Jerry Garcia, and so many more. Magic Trip, the documentary created by Allison Ellwood and Alex Gibney, tells the sprawling, giddy story of the Merry Pranksters by using lost and found footage of the band's madcap adventures throughout the country. The highlight for me.... Seeing Neal Cassady, that canonized muse for Jack Kerouac's rambling Dean Moriary, (pictured above with Stark) in all his frantic, totally maddened glory. See it!

Just got back from an enchanted weekend in California. Out of nowhere had the opportunity to go to Coachella. Yea, I know! Sort of ridiculous - a little bout of serendipitous magic. It was a whirlwind: dizzying, gorgeous, sparkling. Full-on awesome few days. Music festivals are my happy place.
